What the heck is Noise Party?
Noise Party is a showcase located in Minneapolis, Minnesota that gathers artists from the backgrounds of ambient, drone, noise, and experimental genres. Each Noise Party volume is heavily curated to feature the best musical experiences from artists in all points of their musical careers.
Founded in 2021 by Shane Donahue, Aaron Baum, and Brock Lammers, Noise Party was created to give artists a platform for expressing themselves during the immediate post-lockdown of the covid-19 pandemic. Since many of the music venues and long-going music series of the Twin Cities were still non operating, they decided to make something of their own and “give the weirdos a place to be themselves”. The first Noise Party show launched in February of 2022 at Mortimer’s Bar in Minneapolis to extreme critical acclaim, and has been a staple in the local experimental community ever since. Since 2023, original founder Shane Donahue has been solely running the entire Noise Party operation independently. (Fun Fact: Shane also creates live visual projections for each of the Noise Party shows.)
Now, after several years and over a dozen Noise Parties later, Noise Party has made it’s home at The Cedar Cultural Center in Minneapolis and has been in show rotation since 2025.
What we’re trying to do
Noise Party is a showcase music series for weird and unusual styles of music, first and foremost. However, many people are unfamiliar with these generes that are unavailable in most regular people’s lives. Noise Party strives to bring people closer to the unfamiliar, to show that there is an entire universe of sounds yet waiting to be explored. Noise Party also wants the audience to experience the show in most accessible way possible with the highest quality combination of music and experimental visuals perfectly expressing the vibe of the evening.
The name Noise Party is not exclusive to just “noise”, but rather the collective noises across all aspects of life. Noise can mean many different things to many different people, and that’s simply the beauty of interpreting whatever noise means to them.
Our booking isn’t off of name recognition, it’s about the sounds. Pure and simple. Noise Party strives to give audiences a unique experience with every volume, where newer artists can co-mingle with industry titans and offer an astounding amount of musical talent across the whole night. There’s too many talented artists that have gone unheard in this digital jungle of chaos of what we call the music industry. We want to change that.
We want to make each Noise Party show an inclusive space for artists and audiences of all races, genders, and backgrounds to co-exist and create or listen to something extraordinary.
